Why subscribe?

Subscribe to Ink & Earth Chronicles and read about my attempts at slow living and deep noticing amidst the maples in the Gatineau Hills on unceded Algonquin land. I strive to cultivate deeper relationships with my human and more-than-human kin, usually with dirt under my fingernails and a mind like a beehive.

Subscribing will also give you access to my publication archives where you’ll find FREE mindful writing audio (journal) prompts, book recommendations, nature-based ambient sounds, recipes, and more.

Each time I write to you, I offer a mindful journal prompt — a gentle invitation to pause, breathe, and check in with yourself through writing. These prompts are not about perfect sentences. They’re a self-care pause — a moment to meet yourself on the page. Through mindful writing, you can release worries onto the page, finding a sense of calm as you write from a place of curiosity and presence.

You can write for five minutes or fifteen. There’s no wrong way. Let the words flow, or just sit with the question. However you show up is enough.

I’ve been grappling with symptoms associated with Long Covid for almost two years. I share lessons about finding my rhythm, not pushing myself, journaling, meditating, and resting when needed. These lessons are helpful for all humans, not just those with this illness.

I’ve had a newsletter for my mindful writing courses at themindfulwriter.org for a couple of years now and I’m cautiously stepping into the Substack space. I’m aware of all the famous people who write here, of the high quality of writing, but I’m up to the challenge. I’ve spent years writing, teaching, and developing insightful and practical digital content in the arts, and health and wellness spaces. I’ve had many people take my courses to learn to be more present and awake to their creativity. I’ve also had several writers take my classes to learn to write more dynamically. I have a course on the popular DailyOM platform called 21-Day Writing Meditation with nearly 4,000 students.

Here’s a sampling of testimonials from students who’ve taken my courses:

Once I sat in that feeling and journaled about it, I started feeling a bit more energized. Like I was releasing. Which I love doing. Getting rid of what does not belong to me as well as old belief systems that I’ve been holding onto. Thank you, Lissa, for giving us the safe space and the opportunity to share. —Sylvie

I am really taking the class at a slow pace. These lessons really opened my heart and calmed my soul. My favorite so far! I’m going to start doing this meditation in the morning, such a great way to start the day. —Melissa

Thank you for this course. It has helped me to reconnect to me and to writing.

—Christie

I'm a writer, so writing without editing myself - either on the page or in my mind - is so hard. But I did it. I was a little surprised where it went, which I guess is one of the points of the exercise. It was hard, but it felt good when I finished it. Like I got something off my chest - or out of my head." —Aaron

2. What kind of community are you looking to build here

I wish to reach a larger audience of people who want to be more present and live with passion and purpose. I offer mindful writing courses to help people do just that. Whether you’d like to be more present or to improve your writing through more showing and less telling, this community is for you. It will be a space that weaves in my experience of living and writing in my little house in the trees while providing journal prompts to help you be more mindful, calmer version of yourself.
